Our favorite dirty blues duo Left Lane Cruiser have released a new studio album, Bayport BBQ Blues. The album blends Freddy J. IV’s commanding, gritty vocal rasp and positively nasty hoodoo slide guitar work with Brenn Beck’s rhythmic stomp to make for a heady firestarter for your house party, backyard barbecue, or juke joint get-down.
The 11 tracks were recorded in town by Jason Davis of Off the Cuff Studios and mastered at Boiler Room Mastering in Chicago.
With songs such as “Big Momma Shake,” “River Picker,” and “Turkey Vulture,” this album honors the blues in its purest and most powerful form.
The album is dedicated to the memory of the late Chris Johnson, creator of Deep Blues Festival. Some may recall that in 2008, LLC recorded a tribute song to him simply called “Mr. Johnson.”
You can get yourself a CD or vinyl copy of Bayport BBQ Blues at Bompstore.com.
In addition, the band recently wrapped a run of dates with Kyuss’ John Garcia and are on a European tour until July 7. Hopefully, when they return to town we will get a local gig to feast our eyes and ears on the new material.
Sorry Charlie change name
The rock outfit Sorry Charlie recently took to social media to announce they were changing their name. From this point forward they are now known as Zero Tolerance. Same great rock, same great energy, just going by another name.
Zero Tolerance are scheduled to perform at Piere’s on Saturday, June 29, along with Mr. Asylum, Hell Came Home, Downfall, and #IYKYK.
Peachtree reunite for show at teds
The members of Peachtree are getting together for a performance at teds beerhall on Wednesday, July 3, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., their first gig since 2019.
The band was in existence only a short spell before taking hiatus to pursue other musical projects. Members Austin Marsh, Jonah Leatherman, Lance Roberts, and Colton Conrad are known for their work in such bands as Red Arrow, The Union Project, Austin & The Avenue, Jonah Leatherman Band, etc.
Their Peachtree performance will be a few hours of country/rock covers and maybe even some gems off their 3×4 EP.
Sum Morz add new guitarist
Sum Morz have announced Jeff Cottle as their new guitarist after losing longtime guitarist Craig Stephan to cancer.
Many of you know Cottle’s work in The Kickbacks, SODA: System of Dying Angels, etc., and he will be a perfect fit for the band.
The band is set to perform at Andy Music Fest at Buck Lake Ranch, Aug. 3-4.
Octopussy bring back Chains set
If you attended this year’s Down the Line at Embassy Theatre, your jaw was dropped by Octopussy’s performance of Alice in Chains classics.
With the combination of brothers Jason Bair and Eric Bair with John Reuille and Jason Diamond, they recaptured Alice in Chains’ magic with a high-energy, electrifying experience from start to finish.
If you missed it, the band will be doing it again on Saturday, July 13, when they open for Hinder at the Three Rivers Festival.
This time around, they will rock a full hour of nothing but Alice in Chains.
Let THEM fulfill your goth rock needs
Vocalist Lord Demise, drummer Coünt Chücküla, bassist Jam, guitarist Spectre, and keyboardist Grimss make up THEM: Fort Wayne’s Goth Rock.
“I’ve been wanting to do this type of band for over 12 years, and when I finally got all the right people together, something magical happened, and it all just clicked musically,” Chücküla said.
“We started as a HIM tribute band, but once I got all the players together and started practicing, we realized very quickly that we had a unique original sound.”
Their sound is very Depeche Mode, Type O Negative, and Nine Inch Nails spattered with shades of Alice Cooper, Ministry, and Rammstein. In fact, those are some of the artists they cover in their set.
The band recently made their debut at Piere’s, where they were making new friends that led to more bookings.
Their next show will be at Piere’s on Saturday, June 15, with Now I’m Nothing, Four Middle Fingers, and Phaze66. They return to Piere’s on June 22 with Land of Linkin, and will be at Thirty3 in Hudson on July 5, and Carl’s Tavern in New Haven on July 6.
In addition, they are writing and recording original music that they plan to have out later this year so be on the lookout.
Smooth sailing for Yacht Party
Local yacht rock band Yacht Party is taking on the smooth rock from the late ’70s and early ’80s. Expect to hear hits by Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, Christopher Cross, and others that would fit being played from the deck of a luxurious yacht on the high seas.
The band is made up of drummer/vocalist Nick Barbieri, keyboardist/guitarist Adam Trudel, guitarist/saxophonist Pat Hannon, guitarist Greg Titzer, and bassist Chris Faith.
You will have the opportunity to check these guys out Friday, June 14, at Vinland Reserve Winery, June 15 at The Club Room at The Clyde, and July 13 at Sylvan Cellars in Rom City opening for Barenaked Ladies.
