Addison Agen and Jonah Baker are on a mission.
In an effort to raise money for a trip to help teach at a music camp in Gdansk, Poland, the pair are putting on a free-will donation show at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Sweetwater Performance Theatre.
“We’re hoping (June 3) will be a good turnout,” Baker said. “I know we have a lot of family and friends that are going to come out and support us. We’re just kind of going for it.”
To send themselves and a small group to Poland at the end of the month, a goal of $17,000-$18,000 was set, with Baker saying 25-50 percent has been met.
“Without selling tickets, it’s hard to know what the turnout will be,” Baker said, noting he anticipates seats will be available in the 200-seat venue.
Idea is planted
The group mostly comprised of Northeast Christian Church members will head to Poland to help run a music camp with Josiah Venture, a European-based organization with a goal to “walk young people through this process of disciple-making, challenging them to take the next step in the journey from unbelief to spiritual maturity.”
After speaking and worshipping with a friend from Josiah Venture that was visiting from Poland last year, the idea to work with the group appealed to Baker.
“It’s a Christian group, but instead of only concentrating on the gospels, we’ll guide and teach instruments,” he said. “We’ll also teach them songs, and by the end of the week, we’ll have a concert.”
What to expect
At the show, Baker, who is on YouTube and SoundCloud, will kick things off with a half-hour set, followed by former contestant on The Voice, Agen, performing a half-hour. At the conclusion of her set, the two will play together, with Mike Gronsky on guitar and Joey Scheribel on drums.
“It’s going to be an acoustic, intimate show with original songs and covers,” Baker said.
Donations will be taken at the show, and they may also be given by going to https://pushpay.com/g/northeastchristianchurch?src=hpp and selecting “2022 Poland Trip” under “Giving Type” category.
