A full-length documentary about the late 1980s, early ’90s punk scene in Fort Wayne, This Town Rocked!: Fort Wayne Punk and Hardcore, is getting closer to seeing the light of day.

Multimedia creative Darren Dag Hunt has been diligently working on this project that focuses on the people, places, and bands that were born out of gritty do-it-yourself determination in Fort Wayne.

The scene shook stages and barroom floors across the city and laid the foundation for where it’s at today.

Bands put on their own shows, physically handed out their own flyers, and rebelled against American cultural norms.

The film reminds us of the bumper-car interaction the punk and rock scene once was before these pandemic and social media times of today.

A teaser trailer has been posted on the This Town Rocked! Facebook page that you must check out.

This Town Rocked! will cover about 30-plus years of punk history in Fort Wayne,” Hunt said. “I’ve interviewed 50 people on camera, and the whole thing is a fun ride back in time to when this town and life was very different and will be an interesting contrast to the gentrified state of things. The film will shown locally by or before this fall.”

To ensure that happens, the project still needs some work and funding to get it completed.

One of those fundraising efforts will be Friday, March 3, at The Brass Rail. The festivities will include an opening punk prayer from Secretia Noxious, a silent auction featuring local artists, words from Hunt, viewing of a new trailer, and live music by The Shortcuts, Snakehandler Church, Last Chance at Failure, and Matt & The Maybe Naughts

There will be a $10 cover, which will go toward the film.

Come out and support this slice of Fort Wayne punk nostalgia!

Allan, Lawrence book date at Foellinger

If you had tickets to see Gary Allan’s canceled show at The Clyde Theatre, you’re in luck.

Fellow country superstar Tracy Lawrence and Allan have announced a co-headlining tour spanning eight states in two weeks that kicks off in May. Thankfully for us, they will make a stop at Foellinger Theatre on Thursday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m.

The upcoming tour from the two hitmakers recalls 30 years of some of country’s greatest era-defining hits. Though Allan and Lawrence have both shared radio airwaves and immense respect for each other throughout their careers, this multistate tour represents the first time fans will get to see both do full sets on the same stage.

Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.com and in person at the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation office, 705 E. State Blvd.

Bad Omens tickets for Clyde go fast

The melodic metalcore band Bad Omens have announced a spring U.S. tour with support from their pals in Erra and Invent Animate

The tour will see them rolling through town Sunday, May 28, for a 7 p.m. performance at The Clyde.

Formed in 2015, Bad Omens have three albums to date, the most recent being 2022’s The Death of Peace of Mind. Led by singer Noah Sebastian, the band materializes with ghostly atmospheric, striking hooks, and the tingles of sensual high-register harmonies uplifted by cinematic production.

Apparently, Bad Omens have quite the fan base in Fort Wayne since this show sold out within a couple of days. Hopefully you scored tickets. If not, maybe you can track down a buddy who did. And if worse comes to worse, you can travel to catch them at the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 25 or at The Intersection in Grand Rapids on May 26.

A good grab by The Clyde and a good reminder to jump on those presale opportunities.

Bluegrass night coming to Ambrosia

On Saturday, March 4, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Ambrosia Orchard, Cidery & Meadery will be the place to be to catch some local fiddling in the big red barn along U.S. 27 in Hoagland.

The talented Bobcat Opossum featuring Sean Hoffman and Ellen Coplin will perform that evening. These two are familiar to most folks around town for their work in Debutants, The Goat’s Beards, and other projects.

This is a free event, so gather up the troops and head down for food, tasty beverages, and live music.
