On Sunday, Aug. 14, folks are encouraged to gather at Piere’s for a fundraiser for 5-year-old Arlo Ochoa, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and the day will include raffles, merchandise, and live music by a plethora of bands including Mentally Unstable, The Illegals, Milkcrate Mafia, The 906 Band, Reload, Dark Horse, and Ground.
This is an all-ages event, so do not hesitate to bring the whole crew to rock out for a great cause.
If you are unable to attend, there is a GoFundMe setup if you would like to lend a hand with expenses during this challenging time.
For updates on the event and Arlo, check out Arlo’s Army 260 on Facebook. Together, we can help little Arlo get through this.
Bad Brains frontman coming to The Ruin
The Ruin has hit a home run with the recent announcement that Paul “HR” Hudson will perform Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m., with local acts Unlikely Alibi and Sungate Trio opening. How wild is that?
HR is best known as the frontman for the iconic punk band Bad Brains, formed in 1979. Bad Brains took the Washington, D.C., music scene by storm, and quickly became one of the most influential bands in American punk history, breaking down cultural barriers and creating emotionally charged music centered on the message of maintaining a positive mental attitude. This concept of PMA continues to inspire HR’s fans.
Currently, HR performs with a couple Philadelphia musicians as HR & Human Rights.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and if I were a betting man, I would put my money on tickets not lasting until the night of the event, so you better jump on them.
As of press time, The Ruin is yet to reveal where presale tickets can be purchased so be on the lookout.

Carl’s Tavern welcoming in Green Jellÿ
Carl’s Tavern in New Haven is about to get wild when they open their doors to the punk metal pranksters Green Jellÿ on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. during their Punk Rock Puppet Zombie Apocalypse tour.
Best known for their 1993 hit “Three Little Pigs,” the band has been a touring force and released their fifth studio album Garbage Band Kids last year with Cleopatra Records. The album was their first release since 2009, and features a number of special guests including The Trailer Park Boys, Fishbone, Suicidal Tendencies, The Dwarves, Piledriver, Kittle, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and Weird Al Yankovic. That is some good company right there.
Anyhow, the Carl’s show is absolutely free, which is an even better reason to attend.
Openers include Toledo’s heavy-hitters The Convalescence and more.
