On Friday, Feb. 2, The Clyde Theatre welcomes The Fabulous Thunderbirds. With their fusion of blues, rock n’ roll, and R&B, this band helped popularize roadhouse Texas blues with a mass audience in the ’80s and in the process helped kickstart a blues revival.
The Fabulous Thunderbirds’ unique musical hybrid led to barnburners such as “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up,” which led to a breakthrough to the pop audience. The mass success didn’t last too long and eventually founding member Jimmie Vaughn left in 1990.
However, the T-Birds remained one of the most popular blues concert acts in America during that decade.
Co-founder Kim Wilson is the sole original member of the band and continues to spearhead the group as it evolves into its newest incarnation.
