The vibrant abstract works of Michael Poorman and Michael Minick are featured in the Summer Magic Show at Castle Gallery Fine Art in Fort Wayne, now through the end of August. 

Poorman is a Fort Wayne artist and photographer who has been a part of the local art scene for more than 50 years. 

He began drawing and painting as a small child, developing his skills as he grew, and went on to win the Higgins International Scholastic Award as a high school senior. He then studied at the Fort Wayne Art School and the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis before moving to San Francisco to continue his studies and exhibiting at galleries there. 

Several of Poorman’s works will be on display during the show, as well as ceramics by the late Michael Minick who, according to Castle Gallery owner Jody Hemphill Smith, named Poorman as his favorite artist. 

The Minick pieces were unfinished at the time of his death but were recently fired by his widow, Janie Chauncey Minick, and artist Steve Smith. The pieces represent the last of the very popular Minick collection. 

The three floors of spectacular viewing inside Castle Gallery also contain works by other national and local artists, including Jerry Smith and Randall Scott Harden. 

Built in 1905 and converted to an art museum in 1949, the home that holds Castle Gallery was re-established as an art museum in 1995 by current owners Jody Hemphill Smith and Mark Paul Smith, offering a unique artwork experience in the historic setting of one of Fort Wayne’s oldest and most storied neighborhoods.
