Progressive metal icons Dream Theater recently announced the inaugural edition of the Dreamsonic tour set to kick off in June and run through July. 

The package is being billed as “Dream Theater’s very own prog-metal music festival,” according to guitarist John Petrucci in the press release. He added that it will be the first edition of an annual prog-centric traveling festival. 

Dream Theater will be joined on the tour by special guest Devin Townsend and Animals As Leaders on this first run that stops at Hard Rock Casino in Gary on July 7, Jacobs Pavilion in Cleveland on July 8, and Masonic Temple in Detroit on July 11.

Pumpkins offer alternative

Alternative rock favorites Smashing Pumpkins recently announced a 26-date North American tour.

The World Is A Vampire tour will stop at Pine Knob Music Center outside Detroit on Sept. 6 with Interpol and Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville on Sept. 8 with Interpol and Rival Sons. 

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong,” Billy Corgan said in a statement announcing the tour, hoping this tour will remind fans of some of those classic alternative tours and festivals of the 1990s. “That’s what The World Is A Vampire is about. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.”

Goo Goo, O.A.R. hitting road

They were at Embassy Theatre in November. Now Goo Goo Dolls will be on the road again with O.A.R. for a summer tour of the outdoor sheds.  

“I’m so proud to finally be able to announce our summer tour with a great band and our friends O.A.R.,” Goo Goo Doll’s John Rzeznik said in a statement about the tour. “It’s going to be an amazing night of great music for everyone, so be there!” 

Both bands released albums last year with Goo Goo Dolls dropping Chaos in Bloom and O.A.R. releasing The Arcade

“After working on separate albums in the same studio all last year, John and I realized pretty quickly how much fun we’d have on tour together,” O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge said in a statement. “We’re all band guys, love being musicians, and started planning a special night that all our fans would enjoy.” 

Check the tour out Aug. 18 at PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, Aug. 19 at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre outside Detroit, Aug. 20 at Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland, Aug. 22 at Huntington Bank Pavilion outside Chicago, and Aug. 23 at TCU Amphitheater in Indianapolis.

Rockers joining Bike Week

10 Days of Ridin’ and Rockin’ on the Shores of Lake Erie will be in Sandusky, Ohio, during Ohio Bike Week, May 26-June 4.

In addition to the motorcycle-related activities, there will be some old-school rockers. 

Known for their support of the motorcycle community, Jackyl will headline the downtown block party on Thursday, June 1, following a charity ride with frontman Jesse James Dupree

Taking the stage the following night will be Everclear and SpongeQuiet Riot and Warrant finish things off at the three-day block party on Saturday night.
