Originally a children’s book written by Ian Fleming in 1964, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was made into a British-American movie in 1968.
It is a fantasy adventure story following the Potts family. This musical stage version has all the charm and adventure of the ’68 movie.
If you were captivated by the movie and charmed by Dick Van Dyke’s dancing, you will feel the same about this show. In fact, if you were scared to death of the Child Catcher (as I was), we hope to scare you again!
Chitty is a show centered around childlike adventure and imagination. In this great adventure, it is the Potts children’s innocence and beliefs that saves them and completes their adventure.
This show has been quite an adventure for myself as well. Taking on the staging of a classic movie with all kinds of special effects and technical needs has proven to be an adventure of its own. As always, the technical staff at Fort Wayne Civic has been wonderful to work with, and we are all excited to work with the pieces of machinery and technology required to do this show: pieces that move, turn, crank, open, lift, and even fly.
Now I challenge you to think back to your childhood, when a boulder could be a kingdom and a box could be a spaceship. Imagine and step into our world of adventure with childlike awe and wonder, our adventure of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Please note the new start time of 7:30 p.m. for all evening performances of The Civic.
