Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy is offering a local musician a chance to open for him on Aug. 13 at The Clyde Theatre.
As he prepared to embark on his 11-date U.S. tour that begins Saturday at the Palace Theatre in Columbus, Ohio, Kennedy posted a video on his Instagram seeking a local solo/acoustic performer to open for him at each show.
“I remember when I was an up-and-coming musician. I wanted an opportunity to play in front of people more than anything, and it was such a hard thing to get and felt so elusive,” he said in the post. “Now that I’m in this position, I want to really want to give that opportunity to as many people as I can.”
For the chance to open for him, prospective musicians are asked to fill out a Google Form, “US Headline Shows Support Competition,” through the link on his Instagram bio. Musicians will need to submit links to three or four songs and a clip playing live. Relevant contact information, a biography, social handles, and a press photo will also be needed.
Other items that will be needed are proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and technical rider for stage setup.
Winners will be notified privately, with public announcement coming 24 hours before the show.
“Send me your music, let me know what you’re up to,” Kennedy said. “I’ll check it out, and we’re gonna find someone to open up on each show on this upcoming U.S. tour, starting this Saturday with Columbus, Ohio.”
