Fort Wayne Civic Theatre officials announced their 2024-25 On the Road Season during a celebration with the community at Arts United Center on Sunday, Jan. 28. 

Because of renovations at Arts United Center beginning this summer, the Civic Theatre will relocate administrative offices to Foster Park Plaza, 1940 Bluffton Road, just west of The Clyde Theatre. Performances will also be at Embassy Theatre, Foellinger Theatre, and Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

The theater company will kick off their 97th season with The Rocky Horror Show at Foellinger Theatre on Sept. 13-14 with guest director A.J. Lorenzini.

Next up, they move to Embassy Theatre for White Christmas on Nov. 22-23 with guest director and choreographer Leslie Beauchamp.

Things remain at the Embassy for Waitress on Feb. 8-9, 2025. Capri Williams will serves as director and choreographer.

Moving to Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Red will take place from March 21-April 6, 2025, with Andrew Holderfield directing.

The season wraps May 17-18, 2025, with Freaky Friday at Embassy Theatre. Doug King will serve as director and choreographer.

Nominations open for ARCHie awards

If you know of a historic building that has been successfully preserved in the past three years, you are welcome to nominate it for a 2024 ARCHie Award through Thursday, Feb. 29. 

The annual award program recognizes the preservation efforts of individuals, businesses, and institutions in Fort Wayne, Allen County, and the 10 surrounding counties of northeast Indiana. 

The Outreach ARCHie Award Program will honor at least one worthy preservation project in the surrounding counties of northeast Indiana.

The 2024 ARCHie Awards will be presented at a reception in May.

Saint Francis Jesters receive grant

The University of Saint Francis has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $20,000 to support the Jesters program.

 The Jesters, a performing group of people ages 8 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities, have been sponsored by Saint Francis since 1978. There are 100 participants this year, the most in Jesters’ program history.

Arts United documentary now streaming

Arts United, in collaboration with PBS Fort Wayne, has premiered a documentary exploring the history of the Arts United Center, the world’s only Louis I. Kahn-designed performing arts center, on PBS Fort Wayne’s main channel, 39.1.

 A Home for the Arts explores the conception of downtown Fort Wayne’s cultural district beginning in the 1950s, which included hiring world-renowned architect Kahn, the innovative idea of a campus of the arts, and the Arts United Center’s identity as a true community venue. The documentary was produced by PBS Fort Wayne Producer/Director Jonathon Nuthals.

The documentary is available for streaming at pbs.org and by using the PBS and PBS Fort Wayne apps.
