City Barbeque is coming to Fort Wayne by the end of the year in the space once occupied by Hardee’s and Subway at Jefferson Pointe Shopping Plaza.

Originating in Columbus, Ohio, in 1999, City Barbeque bills itself as a fast-casual barbecue restaurant that specializes in hickory-smoked meats. 

Smoking their meat 18 hours, the company’s bread and butter are pulled pork, beef brisket, wings, turkey breast, pulled chicken, smoked sausage, ribs, and Reuben pastrami. They also have fried pickles, salads, and sandwiches.

The chain has grown to 67 company-owned restaurants in eight states with seven locations in the Indianapolis area and another in Lafayette.

Angola restaurant offers wine tasting

The 6 on James, 4080 N. 300 W., Angola, will host their Taste of Italy Wine Tasting on Saturday, April 13. 

The event begins at 5 p.m. and features pairings from various Italian regions and expert insights.

Draft Taproom throwing block party

Draft Taproom and Coffee, 1833 N. Wells St., is celebrating its first anniversary with a block party on Saturday, April 20, from noon-4 p.m. 

The event will feature vendors, live music from Hold the Line, pizza, and locally produced beer and wine.

Celebrate 20 years at The Stand

The Stand, 5200 Bluffton Road in Waynedale, will celebrates their 20th anniversary Saturday, April 27, with a day of food and fun. 

The celebration will include a photo booth, kids games, face painting, balloon animals from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., live music from Swimming Into View, and a beer garden from Hop River.

Ruth’s Chris hosts Silver Oak Wine Dinner

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is set to host a four-course wine dinner featuring products from Silver Oak Cellars as part of its Wine Dinners Lineup on Monday, April 22. 

According to the restaurant, the meals feature the world’s finest wines and showcase the best dishes from their chefs. 

Tickets are $175, and the menu includes duck ragout, sea scallops, pork tenderloin roulade, New York strip steak, toast coconut, and pineapple bread pudding. 

The wines include Twomey Sauvignon Blanc, Twomey Pinot Noir, Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nab tickets to support Erin’s House

Tickets are still available for the Common Bond fundraiser for Erin’s House, featuring Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman on Thursday, May 2, at Grand Wayne Convention Center. 

Tickets start at $150 and feature drinks and light bites. 

Proceeds benefit the Erin’s House mission to provide support and healing to children, teens, and their families who have experienced a death.

Coffee House opens on southwest side 

The Hive Coffee House is now open at 7120 Homestead Road, just north of the U.S. 24 intersection.

The shop is the product of months of dreaming (and doing) by Jordanne Kilbourne, featuring Utopian Coffee, Nelson’s tea, hot chocolate, and smoothies. 

For now, there is a small food menu with gluten-free and other healthy options. 

With indoor and outdoor seating, Kilbourne’s vision is to make it a hangout for southwest Fort Wayne. 

The Hive Coffee House is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m.-noon.

Panda Express opening fifth location

The “Chinese Inspired, American Made” Panda Express is adding a fifth restaurant in Fort Wayne at 5470 Meijer Drive, across from Meijer near Maysville Road and I-469. 

Other locations are at 4589 Dupont Road, 6205 Lima Road, Apple Glen Shopping Center, and Glenbrook Mall.
