Fort Wayne and beer historians are going to want to swing by 2Toms Brewing Company, 3676 N. Wells St., on Saturday, Aug. 24, when Centlivre will unveil two beers that pay tribute to the brand’s Summit City tradition.
The release of a pilsner and dark lager will be part of an event that runs from 2-8:30 p.m. and will include food from Two Sixty BBQ and music at 6:30 p.m. from The Ex-Bombers.
Centlivre began in Fort Wayne in 1862 by French immigrant Charles Louis Centlivre, along with his brother, Francois, and father, Louis Charles. The family owned the brewery through the late 1950s and later became Old Crown before ending production in 1973.
Last year, 2Toms teamed up with Brad and Sheila Klopfenstein to bring back the Centlivre brand Aps Brau.
The Pearl announces addition of Amoré
Shortly after announcing Crescendo Café & Coffee would be joining The Pearl downtown, plans for an Italian restaurant at the multi-use venue have been unveiled.
Amoré: Italian, Steak & Seafood will feature fine Italian dishes with steakhouse and seafood selections. Fort Wayne City Council has approved a liquor license application for the venue, but it is currently awaiting state approval.
Like The Pearl, Amoré is the brainchild of Chuck and Lisa Surack, who wanted to bring home the cuisine they discovered during a family trip to Italy.
The 5,150-square-foot Amoré will feature a wine-cellar-inspired dining room, as well as floor-to-ceiling wine displays and windows, offering an idyllic view of downtown Fort Wayne.
The wine list will highlight Italian and American wineries with additional wine brought in from other regions to round out the world-class selection.
Construction on the restaurant is expected to be completed by November with the restaurant opening that month or in early December.
The restaurant will create 40 jobs.
City Barbeque joins Jefferson Pointe on Sept. 9
City Barbeque have set Sept. 9 as the opening date for their restaurant in the Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center.
The fast-casual joint will operate in the space at 1727 Apple Glen Blvd. that recently housed the Hardee’s/Subway mashup.
City Barbeque features slow-hickory smoked meats, including beef brisket and pulled pork, cooked on site.
Swizzle Market holds 4-day grand opening
Speaking of Jefferson Pointe, the alcohol-free drink boutique Swizzle Market will celebrate its grand opening, Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 22-25.
Swizzle opened this summer but will bring in vendors and have tastings during their grand opening, coined The Big Swizzle Sizzle.
They are open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Hot Head Burritos opens first Fort Wayne store
Hot Head Burritos, 3120 St. Joe Center Road, is now open daily from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. in the Marketplace at Canterbury.
If you sign up for their mailing list, you can get a buy one, get one free coupon for a bowl or burrito.
Lima Road Chipotle boarded up
Since Aug. 8, a condemned sign has hung on the door at the Chipotle at 6175 Lima Road.
Not much is known, but the printed notice says, “Building or structure is in unsafe condition and must not be used or entered without written permission.”
The building has been damaged with a boarded-up door and glass inside.
Grab a bite during ACD Festival
While you’re in Auburn to check out the cars at The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, Aug. 29-31, don’t forget about several events that feature food and drinks.
- The First Friday Ice Cream Social is Friday, Aug. 30, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main and 7th streets.
- While taking in the Downtown Cruise-In of vintage cars, there will be a Ladies’ Tipsy ParTea from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Bridgewater Golf Club, 1818 Morningstar Road. It’s a $30 tea party with extras like wine and charcuterie. The first 100 guests receive gifts, including a wine glass.
- The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival Downtown Bar opens at 5 p.m. on Aug. 30, then again at 9 a.m. on Aug. 31 on Main Street near the courthouse. It includes Mad Anthony Brewing’s Auburn Brew and the 2024 ACD wine produced by Country Heritage Winery.
- Get there early on Saturday, Aug. 31, for the National Automotive and Truck Museum pancake breakfast at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum from 7-10 a.m.
- Then there’s the Gatsby Gala Ball at the museum, from 7-11 p.m. on Aug. 31. It’s a 1920s bash complete with big band music, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a cash bar. Tickets start at $35 for ACDA Museum members and $50 for non-members. The event benefits the ACDA Museum and its activities. You can find out more at acdfestival.org.
