BRU Burger Bar is now serving up grub on The Landing in the former Gnometown Brewing and Landing Brewing Company spot at 118 W. Columbia St., Suite 101.

BRU Burger Bar boast a custom burger of sirloin, chuck, and brisket. The brand, the latest project by Cunningham Restaurant Group, has sprung up in nearly a dozen locations in Indiana. The company also has Marquee on The Landing.

Along with their “people’s sandwich” burger, the BRU Burger Bar menu also features cocktails and wine in addition to vegan and gluten-free options and desserts.

Of course, if you want glutton options (I’m teasing), they have chicken fingers, sandwiches, chili, nachos, and hand-dipped milkshakes.

Greek Festival fare on the go

Miss that cuisine from The Greek Festival? Well, lucky for you, the Drive-Thru Greek Festival is Friday-Saturday, Sept. 20-21, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 110 E. Wallen Road.

For two days a year, the church parking lot becomes a hub of Greek delicacies. They’ll have gyro or souvlaki chicken and pork souvlaki options. There’s also spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese in filo dough), lamb shanks, pastichio (Greek lasagna), triopita (beta cheese and cream cheese), moussaka (ground beef with tomato-onion sauce with eggplant and potato skins), and rice pilaf.

You can’t forget pastries such as baklava, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts), kataifli (filo, butter, cinnamon, cloves, and chopped walnuts), tsoureki (sweet bread), koulourakia (butter cookie), and paximadia biscotti.

You can pre-order at holytrinityfortwayne.org.

Enjoy the food of yesteryear

The Johnny Appleseed Festival returns Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Johnny Appleseed Park, 1502 Harry W. Baals Dr., next to Memorial Coliseum.

The festival celebrates life in the 1800s, tying together Fort Wayne’s connection to the folk hero.

It’s become a hub of pioneer-era comfort food. There’s one catch: All the food must be prepared using the resources and technology of the era, typically over an open fire.

Dozens of vendors will offer apples-based foods, caramel corn, root beer, candy, pork chops, tenderloin, brisket, chicken, roasted almonds, cornbread, ham, lemonade, corn on the cob, and dumplings.

Biggby celebrates National Dog Day

National Dog Day was celebrated Aug. 26, and Biggby Coffee in Georgetown Square, 6568 E. State Blvd., celebrated with a donation of $424.65 to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control. For every drink purchased at the store, Biggby donated $1.

The shop also collected donations and promoted volunteering and other programs at FWACC.
