Weezer celebrate debut

Weezer will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut, commonly called the Blue Album, with a tour of North American arenas this fall.

The Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour will see the band play that seminal record in full, along with hits from throughout their career.

Our region will get in early on the tour, but with only two shows: Sept. 6 at Allstate Arena in Chicago and the following night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Regardless, the drive to either city will be worth the trouble to hear this iconic album with opening acts The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr.

Sublime with Rome say bye

Sublime with Rome, the spin-off band tied to the legacy of SoCal ska-punks Sublime, will tour for the final time this summer.

The group began touring as Sublime in 2009, with Rome Ramirez on vocals and guitar and original Sublime members Eric Wilson on bass and Bud Gaugh on drums.

The band’s use of the name was challenged by the estate of original Sublime vocalist Bradley Nowell, who died in 1996 before Sublime’s international success. The band then added “With Rome” and has toured regularly since, though Gaugh left in 2011.

In December, Nowell’s son, Jakob, performed at a benefit with Wilson and Gaugh and it was then announced he would be doing so going forward under the Sublime moniker.

So, though it will be the last tour with Ramirez, we won’t be saying goodbye to the music of Sublime when the tour stops at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis Aug. 15, Kemba Live! in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 16, and Hard Rock Live! Northern Indiana in Gary on Aug. 17.

Catch Tedeschi Trucks

Tedeschi Trucks Band continue to tour behind their 2022 release, I Am the Moon

The 12-piece Grammy Award-winning rock and soul powerhouse, led by husband-and-wife blues masters Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi hold a well-deserved reputation as one of the best live acts touring today.

With that in mind, you will want to catch up with them when they visit Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago on July 31, Toledo Zoo Amphitheater in Toledo on Aug. 7, Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on Aug. 10, Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre outside Detroit on Aug. 11, and Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland on Aug. 13.

Margo Price will open the shows.

Superstar star in Coldwater

Celebrating the 50th anniversary release of Norman Jewison’s groundbreaking rock opera film, Jesus Christ Superstar, the film’s star Ted Neeley will be introducing a newly remastered print of the film at Tibbets Opera House in Coldwater, Michigan, on March 23.

A VIP reception before the film will have Neeley, who portrayed Jesus in the film, telling stories to a limited number of ticketholders who are able to purchase the add-on experience while Neeley will be in the art gallery after the show to meet fans and sell merch.
