Ann Wilson of Heart will perform at Sterlingfest Art & Music Festival, happening in Sterling Heights’ Dodge Park near Detroit on Saturday, July 29.

Wilson will be backed by her rock-blues band The Amazing Dawgs

Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, developed the first hard rock band fronted by women in the 1970s. Ann is widely regarded as one of the all-time great voices in the history of rock.

Ann Wilson will likely perform some of Heart’s hits, such as “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” and “Barracuda,” along with some original material and various cover tunes.

Steven Adler, formerly of Guns N’ Roses, will headline the prior night’s festivities, offering up a mix of GNR hits and solo material.

In addition, this year’s festival will include an art fair, carnival, drinks, food offerings, dancing, other entertainment on four stages, and a festival-closing fireworks display.

Opening night features a performance from Texas-based Hip Hop Hooray, presenting a tribute to the early days of rap.

Hip-hop block party slated

Also in Sterling Heights, radio station WJLB will present a Block Party at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre on Sept. 23.

If you are a rap fan, you will probably want to check this one out as Ludacris, Lil Jon, and Juvenile are all set to take the stage.

Although Ludacris has focused on acting as of late, he still sports a music career that has produced a host of charting singles and a Grammy nomination.

Lil Jon, of course, birthed the term “crunk,” making it a household word, and Juvenile had a platinum album will 1998’s 400 Degreez.

Sam Jam goes back to ’90s

Let’s add one more note out of “Pure Michigan” with the Uncle Sam Jam in Mount Clemens, also near Detroit, July 6-9.

The Prince tribute act Prince Project opens things up on Thursday night followed by Jackyl and Buckcherry on Friday, Sponge and Everclear on Saturday, and Garth Brooks tribute act Fresh Horse closing things out Sunday.

Spend the weekend and enjoy monster trucks, a petting zoo, a classic car show, gelly ball, fireworks, and cornhole tournaments in addition to the music.

Hatebreed celebrates album

Hatebreed will embark on their 20 Years of Brutality tour this summer.

The tour celebrates the band’s 2003 album The Rise of Brutality, considered to be one of their best.

“These songs are always fun to play, and we’re looking forward to adding some of them to the set that we’ve previously either never or rarely played live,” singer Jamey Jasta said in a press release.

The trek will include two stops in our region, Sept. 8 at The Intersection in Grand Rapids and Sept. 13 at Bogart’s in Cincinnati.

“Apologies in advance for skipping your city,” Jasta added, not necessarily talking about Fort Wayne but, hey, we will accept it anyway. “It is very challenging to get venue holds anywhere as there is an overabundance of touring happening right now, all the way into the winter.”

Terror, Vein.FM, and Jesus Piece will open the shows.
