I am sure by now you know Fort Wayne is home to an array of talented artists. Stevie Luebbert is one of them.

Luebbert is a singer, musician, and songwriter that describes her music as indie/bedroom pop. However you define it, it found its way into the Homegrown Spotlight on ALT 99.5FM/102.3FM. You can hear her interview with Zack Skyler at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 8, as well as her and other local artists in the Homegrown Showcase every Friday at 7 p.m.

Continual upgrades

Starting from a young age, Luebbert found a love for music and sports. If she wasn’t playing a sport, she was learning music.

In third grade, her father taught her to play guitar, and her passion for music continues to blossom.

“I started recording my music as a freshman in high school when I got my first iPod touch that came with GarageBand,” she said. “(I got) some cheap recording equipment and started to learn how to record myself. I fell in love with the recording process and the creative process of it and knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life.

“As I got older, I learned more, and upgraded my little home studio every year. I even took music technology classes in college.

“I’m still learning something new every day, continuing to grow my studio and recording process and knowledge. I want to grow as a musician, so I am always open to new equipment, plugins, recording techniques, etc.

Releasing her music

Luebbert began releasing music in 2020 with her single “Gravitate.” This summer, she released her debut album, Who the F*ck is Stevie Luebbert?

“I find my inspiration from so many different and talented artists,” Luebbert said. “My main influences are The 1975, Russ, boygenius, Pvris, Nightly, The Band Camino, and Jake Miller. I see a lot of talented and independent artists on Instagram and TikTok. Seeing them put out their art makes me want to do the same. I hope my music and art inspires someone to do the same.

“I also hope my music resonates with the listeners. I hope someone, whatever they are going through, listens to a song of mine and it helps them feel less alone and helps them get through whatever they are going through.”

Worth a listen

After listening to Who the F*ck is Stevie Luebbert?, it definitely has a unique sound and a variety of songs that offer a chill vibe that is very fun to listen to.

With songs like “Anxious Mess” and “Vampires,” it is easy to hear where she draws her inspiration, but she still makes it into her own sound.

Her songs give a peek into her feelings and thoughts of making her way through this crazy life.

Although Luebbert doesn’t have any shows scheduled, she is in process of planning some performances in the future. Along with future shows, she also has a catalog of music she has not released.

“Music is and has always been a huge part of my life,” she said. “You will always be catching me listening to music and singing/dancing along to it.

“In my free time, I play guitar and sing along to my favorite songs, work on my own music, play with my dog, or watch any sports game that’s on TV — sometimes multiple sports games at once!”
