Generally, they are called tenderloins, but last week they were “tigerloins” during a Tigerloin Tuesday fundraiser for Black Pine Animal Sanctuary at an Albion restaurant.

For one day, One10 West Main donated 50 percent from the sale of the sandwiches to help Prince the Tiger, a white Bengal tiger, receive eye surgery to restore his sight. Veterinarians detected a detached retina as well as cataracts.

Prince was seized in 2021 by the Department of Justice from Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, the park formerly owned by Joe Exotic. Prince found a home at Black Pine in 2022 with tigers Elvis, Ima, and Patronus.

The issue with his sight was detected during a routine exam in January, leading Black Pine to reach out for funds for the operation.

Patrons came out in full force on Tuesday, Aug. 15, when One10 West Main sold out of “tigerloin” sandwiches, raising $4,055.50, far exceeding their $1,000 goal.

There are plenty of ways to donate to the nonprofit that provides refuge to displaced and captive-raised exotic animals on their website at bpsanctuary.org. You can also find individual fundraisers on their Facebook page.

The sanctuary at 1426 West 300 North in Albion will host its final Hot Summer Night of the year from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, with a food truck tours of the site for $10.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, swing by the sanctuary for Lions, Tigers, and Beer. Early bird tickets are $50, $60 the day of, and include craft beer tastings, dinner, a silent auction, and music from Adam Strack.
