In 1991, I was a high school adolescent, taking part in normal teenage shenanigans when a buddy and I headed to Memorial Coliseum to see Queensrÿche and Suicidal Tendencies.
Queensrÿche was firing on all cylinders with the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful album Empire, which earned multiple Grammy nominations. It was also the time when you could not turn on MTV without seeing the video for their No. 1 chart-topping hit “Silent Lucidity.” As you can expect, the show was killer and the topic of discussion at school the following day.
Fast forward to 2000 and I was in the working world, spending my hard-earned money on booze and concert tickets when I got to see Queensrÿche again, this time at Piere’s. Again, another stellar performance as were the shows that followed at the venue in ’07 and ’09.
Now, years later, I will have the opportunity to see these cats once again when they stroll through town on Wednesday, March 29, for a performance at The Clyde.
This time around, I have much less hair and two children emptying my wallet. Things have changed for the band as well, as they have gone through some member changes, most notably Todd La Torre replacing original singer Geoff Tate in 2012.
Wherever you stand with these progressive metal vets, they have sold more than 30 million albums and have continued to break new ground and push their creative process. In fact, they released their latest album, Digital Noise Alliance, in October.
The Clyde performance will also feature former Megadeth shredder Marty Friedman and thrashers Trauma (best known for being Cliff Burton’s band before he joined Metallica).

Skid Row, Buckcherry slated for Piere’s
Piere’s have found themselves with a pretty stellar show with the recent booking of Skid Row and Buckcherry on Tuesday, March 14.
The two are teaming up for a co-headlining tour that will have them trekking through the states and showing fans what raw, live, and in-your-face rock should be. What’s more exciting is this will be our first taste of Skid Row’s new vocalist Erik Gronwall. They just released their sixth studio album, The Gang’s All Here.
Buckcherry just finished recording their 10th studio album, which is scheduled for a June release.
Michigan rockers No Resolve will open the show.

Tiger Room hosting Christmas Eve Eve show
The Tiger Room at Welch’s Ale House will host a Christmas Eve Eve show on Friday, Dec. 23, with Overlook and Zach Comer.
“The Tiger Room is one of our favorite venues to play,” said drummer Colin Christenson of Overlook, which relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, from Fort Wayne. “The energy is always special when we’re there around the holidays with our friends and family in the crowd. You can definitely expect a Christmas song or two along with a couple brand new songs that will be coming out early next year.”
You must be at least 21 years old to attend this show and have $7 at the door.
No shortage of New Year’s Eve events
Events are starting to come in for those of you looking ahead for New Year’s Eve plans.
Among the shows to get you prepped for the clock to strike midnight are the Fort Wayne Funk Orchestra at the Club Room; Los Galaxy, Funk Landlords, Private Education, and Chris Rebellion at Stan’s Room at Piere’s; Cougar Hunter and Decade Divide at Mitchell’s; Sunglasses at Night at Charlie’s Place; comedian Brad Williams at Summit City Comedy Club; and a flapper/mobster party at The Bell Mansion.
