The University of Saint Francis has completed a colorful composite mural on the front of Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center in downtown.
USF Studio Art Program Director Tim Parsley designed the mural, which combines 70 aluminum Dibond panels painted by Parsley and students during the spring semester. Graycraft Signs installed the cut pieces with a process designed not to damage the ornate bricks of the building at 431 W. Berry St.
Students in Parsley’s public art and mural painting class who participated with the painting were Rebecca Ambrose, Skyler Charleston, Michael Easley, Lily Martin, Jennifer Meisner, Elizabeth Morgan, and Sydney Spevak.
Parsley’s design reflects the mission of USF and the influence of Saint Francis of Assisi. The mural features roses, symbolic of the rose gardens at the Basilica of Saint Francis. Legend has it that Saint Francis flung himself into rose bushes to resist temptation, but the roses retracted their thorns. The mural also features birds that are native to Indiana, representing the idea of sending students into the world to soar. Saint Francis is known as the patron saint of animals.
Festival of Gingerbread at History Center
Since 1985, the Festival of Gingerbread has become one of Fort Wayne’s most cherished holiday traditions and one of downtown’s most popular gatherings for families.
Held this year from Nov. 15-Dec. 18 at History Center, the gingerbread creations by local artists are set up in the Shields Room in celebration of the holidays.
Gingerbread artists range from pre-K students to professionals.
Celebrate past during Christmas at the Fort
Celebrate Christmas at the Historic Old Fort on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Visitors will learn how Christmas was celebrated here during the 1700s and 1800s, meet with the artisans as they present hand-crafted gift ideas, and can purchase baked goods and merchandise.
Family, pet photos with Santa at Glenbrook
Santa Claus will be making repeated appearances at Glenbrook Square beginning Thursday, Nov. 17, through Christmas Eve.
He’ll be there Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sundays noon-6 p.m., plus 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
A special sensory Santa event will be Sunday, Dec. 4, from 9-10 a.m. Pet photos are 4-7 p.m. on Mondays, Nov. 21, 18, and Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Reservations at whereissanta.com are recommended for all photos, but for pet ones in particular.
