Air Supply, the band known for ’80s hits like “All Out of Love” and “Making Love Out of Nothing at All,” will perform at Foellinger Theatre on Saturday, June 11, at 8 p.m.

Fans of the duo that have been around nearly 50 years will hear singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and Australian lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock’s classics.

“For some reason, the music means a lot to people,” Russell told The Jerusalem Post. “You see it when we step on stage. People stand up, and they’re crying, and they’re laughing, and they have a great time. So, something’s going on.”

Accolades

Among their many honors, Air Supply were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame in 2013. 

In 2018, their music was adapted for the stage as the Filipino musical All Out of Love: The Musical. 

In 2020, Rolling Stone Australia listed Air Supply at No. 48 of the 50 Greatest Australian Artists of All Time, saying at the time, “These unabashed displays of emotion often have us tempted to label Air Supply as a ‘guilty pleasure,’ but why should we feel bad about the one that we love? We have a right, you know.”

Streak of success

According to the band’s website, Russell and Hitchcock met in May 1975, “on the first day of rehearsals for the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney. They became instant friends who shared much in common, including their love of The Beatles, whom they’d both seen in 1964 in England and Australia, respectively.”

The site also says that the band had seven consecutive top five singles that, at the time, equaled The Beatles’ similar run. 

The albums Lost in Love, The One That You Love, Now and Forever, and The Greatest Hits sold in excess of 20 million copies. “Lost in Love” was named song of the year in 1980, and along with the other singles, sold more than 10 million copies.”

Concertgoers can expect an evening full of throwbacks and classic hits when they see Air Supply perform in concert that evening.
