The summer that was meant to be in 2020 looks to be back on track, one year later. 

Wagon Wheel Theatre

The Wagon Wheel in Warsaw is celebrating its 65th season this coming summer beginning with The Wizard of Oz. That iconic musical, well-known to generations who grew up with the 1939 film, will run June 2-12.

Next is Guys & Dolls, which runs June 16-26 and features the catchy melodies of Frank Loesser and a story about love, redemption, and gambling. The Music Man rolls into town June 30-July 10, featuring the story of Professor Harold Hill and his quest to bring music to a small Midwestern town. 

The musical version of the 1987 Tom Hanks film Big runs July 14-24, followed by Pride & Prejudice July 28-August 7 in an updated and rollicking version of the Jane Austen classic. 

The summer season closes with the farcical musical  Nunsense from August 11-21.

Tickets and season subscriptions can be purchased at wagonwheelcenter.org. There are no performances on Mondays or on July 3.

Fort Wayne Summer Music Theatre

Also rescheduling from last summer is the Fort Wayne Summer Music Theatre’s production of Les Misérables which runs July 23-August 1. 

Performances will take place at the University of Saint Francis’s downtown Performing Arts Center and will be directed by Andrew Sherman. Auditions are May 15-16. For more information, visit FWSMT.com.

Fort Wayne Civic theatre

Fort Wayne Civic Theatre returns to its home at the Arts United Center after a year of cancelations and alternative venues. Its summer production this year is A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with performances July 24-25, July 30-August 1, and August 6-8. Flex passes are currently available, and individual tickets will be available through ArtsTix.org.
