For those lamenting a dearth of holiday performances this year, one local stalwart organization is bringing us some online performances.
Heartland Sings will present Handel’s Messiah beginning Dec. 14 with video-on-demand and later on several broadcast channels (Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. on NBC 21.2 and Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. on MyTV 21.3).
Heartland promises the performance “features over 150 projected images from art history that depict the story as it unfolds in the music. Experience this multi-sensory performance with large chorus, soloists, orchestra, and artists throughout history telling the story of Christ, and make a memory with Heartland Sings this holiday season!”
The Spirit of Christmas also becomes available on demand beginning Dec. 14. This performance has become very popular as the talented Heartland Singers, led by Maestro Robert Nance, perform in the rotunda of the Allen County Courthouse, filling the air with the songs of the season.
Tickets for both performances are available for $20 and can be purchased at heartlandsings.org/tickets.
New Venue opens on North Anthony
In a year of cancelations, it seems improbable that a new venue would open in 2020.
Although the opening was delayed by a few months, The Garden, a new creative space located in the North Anthony Corridor near Wooden Nickel, launched in August. The Garden has some events coming up in the next few weeks.
The space previously was a long-empty Anthony Wayne Bank which had been purchased by nearby Holy Cross Church and School.
Now reimagined into an inviting new venue, the Garden will host a Holiday Market from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 7. Featured vendors include Moto Ruxin, Brooke Nicole Designs, A Bee’s Garden, Eye in the Willow, B’s Remedies, MTK Creations, Ginger and Co., C-Her Bracelets, and Bracelets and Bling.
Masks and social distancing will be required, but if a line forms and the weather is chilly, there will be indoor/outdoor patio area available with heaters. Hot cocoa and tea will be available for one dollar per cup.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, the Garden will host Million Dreams Nature Trail Fundraiser + Art Show Opening with David Broerman at 6-8 p.m. The Garden Facebook page describes the interesting story behind the exhibit:
“When the state of Indiana went into shutdown due to COVID, David Broerman began his students’ robotics team’s dream of building a nature trail in the woods at Paul Harding Jr. High. After taking care of his teaching responsibilities, David would work several hours each day removing trees to create that trail. By the end of May he would have cleared a trail 3/4 mile. Each day after clearing the trails, he would create a plein air painting on location around the desolate Fort Wayne.”
The resulting paintings will be framed and available for sale that evening.
Proceeds from the sales of all of David’s artwork go to the Million Dreams Nature Trail via Paul Harding Middle School.
