Garage band eager for audience
Namen Namen were recently introduced to the local scene in a performance at The Muse on Main. Comprised of Dylan Record (vocals), Kellen Baker (guitar), Ron Record (drums), and Zara McCord (bass), the garage rockers had only been together about a month before their debut show. They are eager to get out more often.
“We’ve all played together for years in different bands but this is our first time doing original music together, so we are excited for the future” Baker said.
As for their sound, Baker said they’re influenced by The Stooges and Sex Pistols.
“The few covers we do are mainly rocked-up versions of old ’60s R&B and pop songs like Dusty Springfield’s ‘I Only Want to Be with You’ and James Brown’s ‘I’ll Go Crazy’ so I’d have to say we’re influenced by that as well,” Baker added.
As of press time, Namen Namen has no shows booked other than a backyard party. But check out a couple of tracks on Bandcamp including something called “The Horrors of Spider Island.” Can’t wait to catch them live!
Rock the Plaza canceled for 2020
The Allen County Public Library has canceled the Rock the Plaza summer concert series for 2020 because of the pandemic.
The free concerts typically run every Saturday from Memorial Day through Labor Day and are one of the city’s most popular summer destinations for live music. Organizers hoped they could start up in July but chose to cancel as more COVID-19 cases come in.
Like many festivals and events, they will be back next year. Plus, the library hopes to do concerts in a virtual format. More details will follow on the ACPL website.
