In addition to cornering the market on democracy, architecture, philosophy, and theater, Greeks are known for taking the joy in life and passing it on to as many people as possible.

That’s why it’s a special time of year when Fort Wayne’s Greek Fest takes over Headwaters Park every year. The 39th annual festival returns to Headwaters Park from June 27-30.

Prepare to hear “yia sou” as you take a trip to the Land of the Greek Gods without leaving Fort Wayne. This year’s festival once again features perennial favorites of Greek music provided by The Lazarus Band and authentic Greek dancing performed by Triada Dancers.

And while the “kefi” is most assuredly entertaining, we all know the reason we come is to sample all of the delicious Greek cuisine and pastries authentically made in the festival kitchen. There is sure to be plenty of it as gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, spanakopita, and Greek pizza are all on the menu.

Feel the heartfelt filoxenia (“hospitality”) as you are immersed in a culture rich with tradition. Kids activities and attractions are part of the celebration, keeping the little ones interested while you traverse the Agora, a marketplace brimming with authentic Greek clothing, accessories, and other items representing Greek culture.

For the athletically inclined, there is a 5K Run/Walk with awards presented to the top “marathon runners” at the end of the race.
