After nearly 10 years of business, Summit City Brewerks, 1501 E. Berry St., is saying goodbye. The popular brewery at The Olde East End Building announced on social media that their last day will be Thursday, Aug. 15. 

Will Long and David Tomaszewski operate the brewery, and their post documents their beginnings with a small loan and a passion for experimenting with craft beer flavors. They estimate they’ve produced 700 different tastes over the years. 

“With our own hands, we built a unique, and above all, welcoming spot to visit,” the post reads. “It has been a place to meet friends, drown sorrows, and to celebrate victories. We had no idea what the world had in store for us.”

YLNI Farmers Market named top in state

It’s no real surprise to those who have shopped the YLNI Farmers Market that was recently named the best farmers market in Indiana by the American Farmland Trust and Farmers Market Coalition for a third time. 

The group praised YLNI’s staff, vendors, and volunteers for their service and dedication. 

The market began 20 years ago with just a few vendors. Now they have an average of 180 each week along Barr Street between Berry Street and West Washington Boulevard. 

The market is comprised of local producers who grow or make their own items. It’s limited to Allen and nearby counties. 

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through the end of September. From October to April, it moves indoors to a space nearby at the Olde East End Building at 1501 E. Berry St.

Fortlandia throws party for 5th anniversary

Fortlandia, 1010 Spring St., will celebrate their fifth anniversary Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon-midnight. 

The celebration will have food, including Wagyu burgers and hot dogs from Joseph Decuis, live music, karaoke, and 10 beers on tap. 

Takaoka brings back Savor options

Takaoka of Fort Wayne, 305 E. Superior St., continues its Wednesday night Savor menu for a limited time. 

The menu includes Chilean Sea Bass, Hibachi chicken or filet mignon, grilled yellowfin tuna, and teriyaki tofu. Meals include soup, ginger salad, hibachi shrimp and vegetables, and steamed ice.

Tom’s Donuts has their own lager

Tom’s Donuts, 300 Lane 101, in Angola, near Jimmerson Lake, is now home to more than deep-fried pastries. They also have All Summer Long Lager, brewed by Taxman Brewing Company outside Indianapolis. 

The locally famous doughnut shop added Lake Life Traditions Grill this summer as well as a weekly block party that spans 15 Saturdays through Labor Day. 

The Labor Day block party will be Saturday, Aug. 31, with the disco tribute band Hustle54 hitting the stage at 7 p.m.

Rock and Roar at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, 3411 Sherman Blvd., continues Friday, Aug. 9, and Friday, Aug. 23. 

It features local music from JacksonVibe on Aug. 9 and Sweetwater All Stars on Aug. 23 and craft drinks.
