Country blues veteran T Bone Burnett has mapped out his first U.S. tour in 18 years. Unfortunately, it is not extensive with the only date in our region being Oct. 13 at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music.
The 15-date trek arrives in support of Burnett’s recently released album, The Other Side.
His previous traditional tour of the United States took place in 2006. Since then, Burnett has stayed busy working on solo albums as well as projects with Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Sara Bareilles, and more.
He recently celebrated the release of The Other Side in April with his first shows in seven years. Now he’ll be taking his lengthy catalog back on the road this fall.
Given the rarity of this tour, it would be worth the drive to the Windy City if you are at all interested.
Frank Black also in Chicago
Pixies frontman Frank Black will commemorate the 30th anniversary of his sophomore solo album, Teenager of the Year, by performing it in its entirety on a tour that begins early next year.
The trek includes two shows at The Metro in Chicago, Jan. 25-26, followed by a stop at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit on Jan. 28.
Black, also known as Black Francis, will be joined on the tour by many of the musicians who played on Teenager of the Year and intends to reissue the album before the tour commences.
Breeders feeling salty
While we’re on the subject of Pixies, their former bassist, Kim Deal, will be heading out with her band The Breeders this fall.
After spending time opening for Olivia Rodrigo, the alternative rock band that includes Kim Deal’s twin sister, Kelley Deal, as well as Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson, will headline a few shows that includes a Sept. 23 stop at The Salt Shed in Chicago.
Man on Man will be the opening act.
Babymetal come stateside
The Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal recently unveiled fall headlining tour dates.
The band are touring in support of their fourth studio album, The Other One, released early last year.
Scene Queen will provide support when they visit Andrew J. Brady Music Center in Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Old National Centre in Indianapolis on Nov. 26.
Black Crowes visit casinos
The Black Crowes have announced the Happiness Bastards Tour (The Reprise) in North America this fall and winter.
The shows will take place in between dates on Aerosmith’s Peace Out farewell tour, which features the band as special guests.
The headlining trek will kick off Hard Rock Casino in Cincinnati on Sept. 28 with the Hard Rock Live Northern Indiana in Gary on Oct. 18.
The band’s newest album, Happiness Bastards, was released in March and was their first new set of music since 2009.
Take chance to see Nick Lowe
Songwriting legend Nick Lowe will tour North America this fall in support of his first album of new music in a decade.
The 75-year-old singer, who is best known for his 1979 mega-hit “Cruel to Be Kind,” will release Indoor Safari on Sept. 13.
In support of the album, he will stop at The Magic Bag in Detroit on Oct. 26 then spend two nights at Lincoln Hall in Chicago, Oct. 29-30.
He will be joined at the shows by frequent collaborators and luchador-mask enthusiasts Los Straitjackets.
