“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, first granted permission to tour the country by Indiana politician and 23rd President Benjamin Harrison, will return to the Hoosier State for the first time in five years. They will perform a free concert on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Auer Performance Hall.
As the premier ensemble of the Marine Corps, the band frequently performs at events held at the White House. Away from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, the band is currently on a national tour.
Led by Director Col. Jason Fettig, musical selections in the style of the band’s 17th director John Philip Sousa, who initiated the concert tour tradition in 1891, may include traditional band repertoire, marches, contemporary compositions, vocal and instrumental solos, and a patriotic salute to the Armed Forces.
Although this is a ticketed event, seating will be general admission and concertgoers must be seated by 7:15 p.m., at which time the remaining seats will be released.
