Larry McCray burst onto the scene as a new voice in blues guitar in 1991 and seemed destined for the same mainstream crossover appeal enjoyed by the likes of Robert Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughan, but it never quite happened. 

Following a series of independently released albums and with the help of fellow blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa, McCray re-emerged in 2022 with Blues Without You, again showing why this musician should have been a superstar. Superior songwriting and blistering solos are littered throughout, creating what many considered the best blues album of that year. 

“Larry’s still a relatively young man, with a lot to say, and the world needs to know who he is. It’s the perfect time to have a rebirth of his music,” Bonamassa said.

A chance to see and hear why so many are climbing back on the McCray train comes when the guitarist stops by Embassy Theatre on Thursday, Aug. 3.
