Ta’Korei Moore’s instrument is her voice.“I never thought singing would become as big in my life as it has,” she said. “I was in choir, but never out on my own.”That was until she took the stage in a talent show as a fifth grader.“As soon as I got on stage, I knew this is what I wanted to do,” she said. She never looked back, winning the triple-threat at the Talents of the Arts in Orlando, Florida, in 2019 and 2021. A member of Northrop High School’s show choir, Moore was recently in the Fort Wayne Civic Center’s musical Annie at the Embassy. “I was that kid that wanted to do everything and wanted to be in everything: sports, cheerleading, and dancing,” she said.Influenced by singers like Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston, Moore said, “Style isn’t a specific thing. I usually hear a song and want to learn it.”Even if it’s unexpected.“When I tell people I listen to country, that I like Luke Bryan, they are shocked,” she said. “I just like the feel of music, that’s what connects me to it.”Moore is considering a career in music tech, but the passion to perform is the same as it was in elementary school.“I just want to sing,” she said. “When I get on stage, and I have a microphone in hand, that’s where I feel I belong.”
