Macaroni and cheese. Adults love it. Kids love it even more. Though it’s not originally an American dish, mac and cheese is enjoyed in many settings from picnics to wedding receptions.

Now, the Summit City finally has a festival dedicated to this multi-dimensional food with the inaugural Fort Wayne Mac & Cheese Fest, taking place at Headwaters Park on October 13. Twenty or so restaurants and grocery stores will offer up their best mac and cheese dishes for sampling during the day. Varieties include several House Mac & Cheese recipes, Superfood Mac & Cheese from Fresh Thyme, Green Chile and Bacon Mac & Cheese from Club Soda, Parmigiano-Reggiano Mac & Cheese from Biaggis and Chicken n’ Mac & Cheese Waffles with Gruyere Maple Drizzle and Spicy Pickled Onions from Parkview Health.

Live entertainment for the five-hour event will be provided by G-Money as well as Surface DJs. A cash bar will be available for those who wish to partake in adult beverages and you’ll have the chance to meet the Coca-Cola Polar Bear who will help you send a note to a service man or woman through #minibottlemessage, a program aimed at honoring those who serve us every day in the military.

Unlimited sampling of the various dishes is encouraged, but tickets for the event are limited.
