Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Austin French is teaming up with singer-songwriter JJ Weeks to bring the “Wake Up Sleeper Tour” to the 13-24 Drive-In in Wabash on Aug. 23. The Dove Award-nominated French was introduced to the public by competing on NBC’s The Voice and the first season of ABC’s Rising Star, finishing as the runner-up in that competition but impressing enough viewers that he was able to turn his sudden notoriety into a record deal. Culminating in the release of his 2018 debut album Wide Open, French peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Heatseekers album chart. The Macon, Ga., based Weeks has had quite a bit of success as well, charting several songs on the Billboard Christian Singles chart since his debut album in 2013.Named after French’s current hit single, “Wake Up Sleeper,” the tour’s first stop is at the Wabash Drive-In, which has become one of the best places to see live music this summer. In a press release announcing the tour, French touted the need for live performances to continue despite trying times. He said he hopes to bring joy, hope, and good news to people who desperately need it. “In a season where it feels hope is scarce and truth is hard to find,” he said, “I pray these nights are more than just music, but a moment for revival to start in our communities.” Tickets for the show range from $80-$250, depending on row, and are sold on a per-vehicle basis that allows for admission of up to six guests.
