The Taste of the Arts Festival, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, is seeking volunteers.

You can sign up to setup and load-in at various locations to put up tents, chairs, tables, and booths, as well as to provide directions to assigned spots in the expanded festival footprint: Freimann Square, Promenade Park, The Landing, and the Arts Campus.

Other slots include information stations to hand out maps and other general information, greet and welcome performers, help with equipment setup on stage and assist with audio, as well as slots to tear down tents, booths, chairs, and signage after the festival.

Theater class for young HOMESCHOOLERs

Homeschooled children ages 7-13 have the opportunity to sign up for two semesters of Foundations of Theatre classes at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, hosted by Fire & Light Academy. The first semester classes meet every Friday from Sept. 17 to Dec. 10.  Classes are from noon-1 p.m. for 7- to 9-year-olds and 1-2 p.m. for 10- to 13-year-olds. 

Toward the end of the semester, the groups will combine to rehearse for the full two-hour period. Students will learn the basics of theater and the art of performance (vocal technique, ear training, characterization, movement, and rhythm) led by veteran performer and vocalist Patrice Fox.

HEALTHY VOCAL MECHANICS MASTER CLASS

Sweetwater Academy vocal instructor Randy Romero will teach a workshop for all ages on the mechanics of healthy vocal production, efficient singing, techniques for harmonizing, and artistic interpretation. The class is $50 per participant and will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 2-4 p.m. at Sweetwater.

FUNDRAISER to help prevent SUICIDE

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is holding a Tiki Luau fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 7-11 p.m. at the Fort Wayne Sport & Social Club, 6155 Stoney Creek Drive. All proceeds raised will stay with the local chapter. 

Tickets are $40 and include DJ, heavy appetizers, silent auction, cash bar, and live entertainment. Must be 21+ to attend. No “luau” dress code is required but it is encouraged to add to the fun.

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Boys and girls ages 4-14 are welcome to join NFL Flag Football. Late registration is still open, but spots are limited. All abilities are welcomed and there is no experience needed to play. 

Kids will develop football fundamentals without the contact. NFL FLAG reversible jerseys and flags are included. Games and practices will be on Saturday mornings at Jury Park or Sunday afternoons at Summit Middle School with trained and screened volunteer coaches.
