FWMoA celebrates Dia de los Muertos

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art will present a community-centered altar exhibition showcasing the traditional elements of the ancient Latin American holiday, Día de los Muertos, such as sugar skulls, colorful tissue paper cutouts, and photos or personal items of deceased relatives to honor the souls of the departed.

The holiday has evolved from a blend of Meso-American and Christian cultures. Those traditions come to life with this celebratory exhibition at FWMoA featuring memorials created by artists, families, and community groups from throughout the region.

The museum will host an open house on Nov. 7 with free admission.

Community members can honor their deceased loved ones by filling out a form online. Loved ones’ names can be written on a paper butterfly and placed on the community altar (limited to first 100 submissions).

Alternatively, a photo and short caption can be displayed (limited to first 50 submissions).

Submissions are accepted at fwmoa.org through Nov. 19.
