With our recent bit of snowfall and Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction for more winter, there are still some fun outdoor options in the coming weeks before spring is sprung.
The Headwaters Ice Skating Rink remains open for the season through Feb. 28 when it closes until next winter. Although typically closed on Mondays, the rink will be open on Feb. 15, providing a perfect way to celebrate Presidents Day. For more information, call (260) 422-7625.
The Toboggan Run at Pokagon State Park will also close for the season on Feb. 28, leaving a few more weekends to check it out. The run is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.
Because of distancing requirements, visitors are experiencing record wait times, and the wait list will be closed when the limit has been reached. For more information, call (260) 833-2012.
Supporting cinema
Fans of Cinema Center are no doubt looking forward to the day when it can once again open its doors for more movie excitement, but it is possible to support the organization while enjoying many great films from home.
Foreign and domestic, documentary and feature films, comedies and dramas can all be found at cinemacenter.org.
Most rentals can be secured for three days for $9.99 — well below the price of two tickets to a film in normal times — while some are available for $12.
Music fans may be interested in a few particularly fun options including Meeting the Beatles in India, Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind, and Creem, a look back at one of the best music magazines of the 1970s and the personalities (including Lester Bangs) who brought it to life 50 years ago.
Ticket prices for these films is divided between the distributor and Cinema Center, providing an excellent way to keep the theater going through this difficult financial period.
Online show for Valentine’s Day
There are still a couple of fun options coming up for Valentine’s Day weekend including a timely performance from Arena Dinner Theatre, available from Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. until Feb. 13 at 11 p.m.
First Comes Love: An Evening of Reader’s Theatre features “entertaining short plays will feature The Battle of Bull Run Always Makes Me Cry by Carole Real, English Made Simple by David Ives, Something I’ll Tell You Tuesday by John Guare, Time Flies by David Ives, and Sure Thing by David Ives.”
