The State of Clay in Indiana features works by residents of the Hoosier state and runs August 26-Oct. 11 on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne.

The exhibition offers a unique glance into the world of pottery and the diverse works it can encapsulate. Works may include everything from Agateware and Lusterware to Stoneware and everything in between. Creations from beginners, amateurs, and experienced artists will be on display.

The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the inaugural Indiana Potters Conference, to be held Oct. 4-5 in the Walb Ballroom, also on the PFW campus. The event aims to highlight the clay community in Indiana while bringing in demonstrating artists from throughout North America.

Held in partnership with the Michiana Pottery Tour, the Indiana Potters Conference features simultaneous demonstrations from artists Malcolm Mobutu Smith from Bloomington, Sarah Pike-Fernie from Canada, Matthew Metz of New York, and Martha Grover from Maine.

Smith will deliver the keynote address on Oct. 4 followed by a gallery reception for State of Clay in Indiana in the Visual Arts Building Gallery.

Juror Ted Neal, a studio artist and a professor of ceramics in the School of Art at Ball State University, will be on hand at the reception to talk about the exhibition.

This conference is open to everyone, not just residents of Indiana.
