Set sail with Brave the Sea as they bring their unique blend of Celtic rock and punk to the Botanical Conservatory on August 30. They appear as the final act to take part in the 14th annual Botanical Roots Outdoor Concert Series.
From Newark, Ohio, Brave the Sea started out as, strangely enough, a pirate-themed punk band. Finding themselves changing both musically and through the addition and subtraction of members, the evolution of the band found Brave the Sea infusing elements of folk, rock, and metal into their music to create a diverse listening experience.
In 2017 the band released their first album, A Pirate’s Life, the name in homage to their beginnings. They are now touring in support of the follow-up, The Kraken, an album that highlights even more of their unique sound and Celtic Rock riffs.
Brave the Sea’s live shows offer a combination of their trademark anthemic tunes and a high-energy performance that employs the use of traditional folk instruments, giving them a stage aesthetic that is hard to rival. In addition to their original material, Brave the Sea often cover songs from some of their influences including bands such as Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and Alestorm.
With a repertoire like that, it’ll seem like St. Patrick’s Day came twice this year, leaving little doubt the audience will have a blast dancing the night away at the Botanical Conservatory’s last party of the summer.
