Tower of Power
November 8, 2018
Oakland, Calif., music legends Tower of Power are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2018 with a new album, a tour, and a planned visit to The Clyde Theatre on Nov. 16.
The band just dropped their 19th studio album, Soul Side of Town, and while the new disc shows the spirit and energy still present in the band, the live setting is where Tower of Power have always been at their best. With tenor sax Emilio Castillo and baritone sax Doc Kupka guiding this ten-piece machine, Tower of Power will blast their way through two hours of funk and soul classics that will likely result in a hair-raising audio experience that longtime fans, music connoisseurs, and a even new fans will remember for a long time to come.
If that’s not enough to pique your interest, consider that the centerpiece of the band, the five-piece Tower of Power horns, have played with Elton John, John Lee Hooker, Jose Feliciano, Rick James, Heart, Neil Diamond, Phish, Aerosmith, Luther Vandross, and even P. Diddy. How’s that for a diversified lineup of fans? The Sweetwater All-Stars, featuring Nick D’Virgilio (Genesis, Tears For Fears) on drums, Don Carr (James Brown, The Oak Ridge Boys) on lead guitar, Phil Naish (Elton John, Steven Curtis Chapman) on keys, Kat Bowser (Oleta Adams, Jon Secada) on vocals, and Sweetwater’s owner and CEO, Chuck Surack on saxophone, will open the show.
