Taking the unusual approach of releasing a live album first, Lonestar followed up with their self-titled debut studio album just eight months later. Both albums included the hit single “Tequila Talkin’” and set the stage for the succession of hits that followed, including “No News” and “Come Cryin’ to Me,” both of which hit No. 1 on the country music charts. But even beyond their own success, members of Lonestar began earning some individual attention as well. Lead singer Richie McDonald provided vocals for other artists including the late Mindy McCready. Bassist and vocalist John Rich opted to leave Lonestar altogether, first establishing himself as a solo act, then joining forces with Big Kenny to record as Big & Rich. McDonald also left the fold for a few years before returning in 2011.
Since that time, Lonestar continues to be one of the most popular bands in country music, releasing their 10th studio album, Never Enders, in 2016. In the end, it’s their live show that continues to distinguish them, as promised by that long-ago released debut. Tickets for the Honeywell show, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and features special guest Preston James, are available at honeywellcenter.org.
