The fine folks at The B-Side at One Lucky Guitar have a couple intimate shows lined up for you next month.

First up, on Thursday, April 21, they welcome singer-songwriter Eef Barzelay of the alt-country band Clem Snide

Israel-born and New Jersey-raised, Barzelay has been performing since 1991, mainly with the rootsy Clem Snide and as a solo artist. Some compare his work to Lou Reed singing Buddy Holly songs, which is quite interesting to say the least.

The B-Side performance will be 8:30-10 p.m. and will see him performing new songs, old favorites, and selections from Forever Just Beyond, his recent collaboration with Scott Avett of Avett Brothers fame.

The following evening, The B-Side, 1301 Lafayette St., opens its doors to the Minneapolis-based, indie folk artist Humbird

Siri Undlin is the singer-songwriter behind the Humbird moniker whose live performances are intimate and earthy, literal and metaphorical. Humbird is out in support of the excellent new album Still Life. This show will also get under way at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for both shows are available now via Eventbrite.

Local bands playing at skate park event

Slam City Skatepark, 1412 S. Anthony Blvd., will host “Shut Up and Skate” on Saturday, April 2, from 7-11 p.m.

The event will include four hours of skateboarding and four bands including Sid & The Plastics (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Mustache Milk (Muncie), and our very own Squirrel Cage and Loveseat

This is open to all ages and requires an $8 cover at the door.

Rail welcomes heavy metal mariachi band

The Brass Rail will be the place to be Sunday, May 29, at 8 p.m. as they welcome Metalachi: The World’s First and Only Heavy Metal Mariachi Band.

Please, take my money now!

Metalachi will take you on a south-of-the-border spin through heavy metal with riffs blasted through traditional mariachi instruments including the guitarron, violin, trumpet, and guitars.

The fun does not stop there. Each member tends to don festive leather boots, leopard-print pants, cutoff T-shirts, and sombreros.

You may have seen the band on TV when they were featured on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent. Anyhow, while at the Rail, expect to be engaged with classic metal songs by Slayer, Guns N’ Roses, Dio, Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, and more all performed in the style of mariachi music.

Tickets for the show are only $13 and available through Eventbrite.
