It's the unavoidable fate of every local band to be compared to well-known national acts with similar sounds. We writers just can't resist the urge to take the easy way out. That's why I'll say that Soulmine reminds me a lot of Queensr¯che.
Artemus Richardson's vocals and the band's idealistic, image-laden lyrics are reminsicent of the acclaimed progressive metal band. That's not to say that Soulmine is derivative; Sybil is one of the most solidly conceived local releases I've heard all year, throwing semi-folky touches (do I hear a little Kansas in there somewhere?) into the heavy rock mix.
