“They’re living it up at the Hotel California.” No, it’s not Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, and company, but it is nearly as good and a lot more accessible. Not only is Hotel California the name of the third-best selling album of all-time and the name of a great song, but it is also the name of the band formed to pay tribute to the creators of that song and album, the Eagles.
Formed in 1982 after a highly public split of the original Eagles, Hotel California’s aim was to fill the void left by the original group by presenting the hits we all know and love in the most authentic way possible. The band drew praise from critics and fans alike and, even after the Eagles reunited in 1994 with the famous “Hell Freezes Over Tour,” continue to be in high demand on the touring circuit, performing 150-200 shows a year.
With Hotel California: A Salute To The Eagles, you know you’ll get the hits. You’ll likely hear “The Long Run,” “Take It Easy,” and, of course, “Hotel California,” but you’re also just as likely to hear “Boys of Summer,” “The Heat Is On,” and “Life’s Been Good,” all solo material from individual members of the Eagles.
It may not be the real Eagles, but Hotel California has gained a reputation as the “next best thing.” And, given that the Eagles aren’t likely to venture into our area anytime soon, if ever again, you might want to put some “pink champagne on ice” and enjoy some of the most timeless music of our generation presented by some highly qualified musicians.
