Wow, it’s a really weird time of life right now, wouldn’t you say? In just a matter of days, sports events, concerts, theatre productions, and public events have taken a back seat in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Looking at the bright side of things, a few events have already been rescheduled, providing us some encouragement as we adapt to trying circumstances.

If you ventured out over the weekend, there were still a good amount of local musicians performing at numerous venues throughout town, but for how long that will continue is yet to be seen.

Some artists even took to social media to perform, proving uncertain times call for innovative measures. Folks that were at home self-quarantining got the pleasure of tuning in and catching a handful of artists performing at local establishments as well as their homes.

I tuned in one particular evening and saw Love Hustler streaming from their gig at JD Lounge, Debutants jamming in what looked to be someone’s living room, and The Muse on Main doing a live stream of their evening lineup.

Sure, you may not get the full “club experience” but you still get to take in the music, maybe have a cold one in your hand, and even dance on the couch if you choose to. Heck, you could even adjust your own volume.

I know, I know it might not be the same feel, but at least you got to experience live music and witness firsthand how creative our local talent is.

On a national level, bands like Dropkick Murphys, YungBlud, and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have taken to the show-must-go-on creativity and done some streaming as well.

I’m sure that list will grow as long as people are cooped up and fighting boredom.

Remember, music serves as an incredible outlet in our lives and this is especially true during times like this. Therefore, if you can’t make it to see your favorite band, the live streaming is a great way to connect people with the power of music.

Hats off to our local scene for stepping up!

Static Fly on your WiFi

One thing to check out during the down time is the new lyric video by Static Fly. “Black Mass” is the latest track from the band that was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Shawn Dealey at Sweetwater Studios.

The track will be featured on their upcoming EP which is rumored to be out this spring.

You can sign up for the band’s mailing list at Staticflymetal.com to be notified on the release date before everyone else and to receive special offers.

Believe it or not, Static Fly is celebrating 25 years as a band this year and clearly have no signs of letting up.

Record Store Day is rescheduled

One event being affected by the outbreak is the annual Record Store Day which was slated for April 18.

RSD has become a holiday for music collectors worldwide since its inauguration in 2008 and helps bring together music fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the world.

The new date is Saturday, June 20. Same event, same fun, just a different date so make sure to circle it on your calendar.

Expect more details from all three Wooden Nickel locations and Neat Neat Neat Records and Music as we get closer.
