June 2, 2021
After a pandemic-induced hiatus, some of our beloved festivals and events are making comeback. One for certain is the 52nd annual Three Rivers Festival taking place July 9-17.
Although this year’s TRF parade has been scrapped, the majority of the events are still a go. Gather the troops out of hibernation and head downtown to take part in events such as Art in the Park, Bed Race, Children’s Fest, Midway, International Village, Fireworks, Trivia Night, and Junk Food Alley.
A foot-long corndog and a deep-fried Twinkie sure sound good.
Plus, no festival is complete without live music. The fine folks at TRF have put together a lineup of top-notch local and national acts.
On Friday, July 9, local star Keegan Ferrell, fresh off of NBC’s The Voice, and local supergroup Whoa, Man! get the party started.
Saturday, July 10, Chris Worth will be opening for Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience.
Sunday, July 11, is STAR 88.3 Music Stage featuring Building 429, Rhett Walker, Cochren & Co., and Terrian.
Tuesday, July 13, is a triple rock bill including Daily Driver, The Y’s Guys, and The Band Brother.
Thursday, July 15, the festival welcomes the Indianapolis high-energy party band Toy Factory, along with Music Lovers Lounge.
Friday, July 16, is Face to Face: A Tribute to Billy Joel & Elton John, along with Aleena York and Blue Pluto.
Finally, on Saturday, July 17, it’s the return of Here Come the Mummies with Good Night Gracie and The Sweetwater All Stars.
Tickets for all the shows are available now at threeriversfestival.org.
Lift a stein of german heritage
Although Germanfest has been canceled for the second year in a row, you can still celebrate on Monday, June 7, at Pedal City. Join the German Heritage Society from 5 to 7 p.m. for the Judge Scheibenberger Masskrugstemmen Contest, giveaways from Chapman’s Brewing Company and 260 Beer, and Roko Kitchen serving up German platters and apfelkuchen (German apple cake).
If you think you have the strength and endurance to hold a 1-liter stein of beer for an extended amount of time, then come take part in the Masskrugstemmen Contest. It’s pure entertainment.
Block Party off West Main
The Ruin will host a block party on the evening of Saturday, June 12. The one and only Grateful Groove will kick off this all-ages neighborhood party at 6 p.m., so be ready to boogie. They are slated to perform three full sets, which will conclude at 10 p.m. There will also be vendors on site and tasty food from Wildwoods Grill and Beji Cuisine.
Following their performance, things will move indoors for the after party featuring house music by LSTree, jFET/Jangatha, GoodLuckGarrett, O.B. Won, Jarome Allen, and Danny Dillinger. The after party is for ages 18 and up and will have a $5 cover charge.
