Gladys Knight, “The Empress of Soul,” is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning American R&B soul singer, actress, humanitarian, and author. She is listed as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 with Gladys Knight & the Pips.
Fort Wayne will have the opportunity to see why she’s one of the greatest living soul singers on the planet on Sunday, June 21, when she takes the stage at the Sweetwater Performance Pavilion.

The Garden blooms on North Anthony
If you’ve driven through the North Anthony Corridor lately, you may have noticed a transformation of the old bank building next to Lassus/Wendy’s.
Taking over the building at 3308 N. Anthony Blvd. is The Garden, an open-concept space dedicated to creating community and launching local creatives. The facility is part co-creating space, part art gallery/venue, and part community incubator.
The husband-wife team of Chad and Lesa Van Meter are the brains behind The Garden. They are focused on connecting local students, artists, and innovators into community and ultimately into creating a thriving cultural life in the ’05 neighborhood. The Garden will be home to art shows, live music, community events, an afterschool study space for high school and college students, and creative programming such as mentoring and workshops.
If you would like to scope out the place, the Van Meters are having an official grand opening on Thursday, April 17, from 7-9 p.m. They will host a free all-ages celebration with art, music, food, drinks, interactive booths, and more. Further details will be posted on their Facebook page.
Agen in Wabash and fort Wayne
Addison Agen has a couple worthy gigs on her upcoming schedule.
First up, on Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m., she will head to Wabash to perform at the recently renovated Eagles Theatre. This would be a golden opportunity to check out the venue while taking in music by Agen and opener Charlie Jesseph.
Then on Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m., Agen will embrace the stage at C2G Music Hall as opener for the Nashville, Tenn., outfit The Arcadian Wild. This folk group is out in support of their sophomore release, Finch in the Pantry, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard bluegrass charts.
