Dr. Seuss has probably been the most influential and inspirational author to children and adults for over 80 years. While we read to our children, we can’t help but take in such beautiful and thought-provoking messages and enjoy his creative and wacky animations. There are such great themes and lessons to be learned from his most popular works such as:

Encouraging youth to dream and reach for their goals from Oh, The Thinks You Can Think and Oh, The Places You’ll Go.

How to play well with others and pick up after yourself from The Cat In The Hat.

Taking care of the environment from The Lorax.

Trying new things from Green Eggs and Ham.

Respecting the elderly (and enjoying later years) from You’re Only Old Once.

And probably the most beautiful themes of kindness, being different, putting others before yourself, and loyalty are all captured in Horton Hears a Who

Seussical, first produced in 2000, centers around the books Horton Hears a Who and Horton Sits on a Nest. The musical brings together stories, references, and characters from 17 of Dr. Seuss’ books, all orchestrated through the mischief of The Cat in the Hat.

This show has been so much fun to work on, not only with the dedicated and wonderful Civic Theatre staff but the amazing talents of this cast. It really is a beautiful story with wacky characters and great music. I ask you to imagine that you are reading this story to a child and experiencing it through their eyes because we are never too old to let our imagination go!
